Where to slice the squares

Finished block

1. Referring to Slicing with a Ruler, slice all the red and gray 10˝ × 10˝ squares once diagonally. You will have 48 red and 48 gray right triangles.

2. Referring to Slicing with a Template, copy the Compass pattern and make a template of plain paper.

3. When taping the paper template to the underside of the ruler, match the ¼˝ line on the ruler with the ¼˝ line on the template and align the template with the edge of the ruler. Working with only 1 red triangle and 1 gray triangle, slice the triangles with the ruler and a rotary cutter. You will slice along one side of the template and then you will need to reposition the template on the ruler to cut the second template edge. Be very careful to keep the same orientation of the resulting pieces. (Do not cut all the red and gray triangles now. It is too difficult to keep them all in the proper orientation after cutting.)
